We’re delighted to welcome Charlene to Rice Speir as Special Counsel in our Civil Team. She brings extensive expertise in litigation, particularly defective building claims, and a proven track record in resolving complex disputes. Charlene has a particular interest in major latent defect litigation and has acted in high-stakes proceedings involving structural and fire defects.
Before joining Rice Speir, Charlene practised at top-tier law firms, gaining broad commercial experience. She regularly appears in the District Court and High Court and has also appeared in the Court of Appeal. Alongside her courtroom advocacy, she is skilled in alternative dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, and judicial settlement conferences.
Charlene has also been a contributing author to Laws of New Zealand (Building and Construction; Weathertight Homes Resolution Services Act 2006) and Building Law in New Zealand.
Her arrival strengthens our capacity to support clients across the full spectrum of building defect claims and local government matters, reinforcing our commitment to delivering expert, pragmatic advice.
We’re excited to have Charlene on board and look forward to the expertise and valuable contributions she will bring to our clients and team.
