Helen is the Managing Partner at Rice Speir.
In more than 25 years of practice, Helen has established herself as one of New Zealand’s most successful mediation and litigation lawyers, specialising in a wide range of local government and insurance litigation.
Helen knows when and how to use mediation and other modern dispute resolution techniques to bring parties together. Helen has observed that although litigation has an important place in resolving disputes and settling claims, it is often too narrow, expensive, and slow which has motivated her to employ alternative methods.
This understanding of what motivates people, and her reputation as a compelling leader, along with her lively, interactive, and fun presentations means she is in high demand as a speaker and trainer when she is not at the coal face working with her insurance and local government clients.
Helen is a persuasive advocate and has appeared extensively before the judiciary. Her expertise within the forum of judicial settlement conferences resulted in Helen being seconded by the New Zealand Law Society and the Auckland District Law Society to co-present with members of the Judiciary at a nationwide series of seminars dealing with settlement conferences.
